Grow Your Own Bunching Onions!
Did you know you can easily grow your own bunching onions (we usually call them green onions in Hawaii)? When you receive bunching onions with roots on, just cut the onions off above the roots and replant the roots in a container or in the soil. You can also grow them hydroponically for a while then transplant them into a container or soil.
I've found the most success by planting them relatively close together (1" spacing) and watering them in after planting. Bunching onions grow quickly and like sun and water. Whenever you want to use them, just cut off individual stems off and let the rest continue to grow. They should keep growing back for over a month, meaning you won't have to buy green onions as often. However, I've heard that eating the white bulb at the bottom is also very nutritious, so you may need to grow some to harvest the entire plant and some to harvest just the shoots and leave to grow more for next time.
